Red Sox's Ortiz not in lineup Monday vs. Blue Jays
Greg M. Cooper / USA TODAY Sports
Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz will have Monday off to rest a number of ailments as his team opens a three-game set against the Toronto Blue Jays.
It was a weekend of bumps and bruises for the Red Sox slugger: Ortiz left Saturday's game against the Seattle Mariners after taking a pitch off his left elbow, followed by another early departure on Sunday after fouling a ball off his right foot.
The news should come as a relief to Blue Jays' pitchers, as the 37-year-old has absolutely crushed the ball at Rogers Centre. In 108 career games, Ortiz is slashing .269/.361/.613 with 37 home runs and 96 RBIs in Toronto, including four homers in 17 at-bats during a four-game series in late July.
