Rangers reportedly willing to include cash in Rios deal

For teams in need of a right-handed bat with a reasonable salary next year, Alex Rios is available for the taking. Texas is apparently willing to throw in some cash to make it happen, too.

The Rangers outfielder remains among the top right-handed outfielders on the trade market, but Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal suggests his market is shrinking as certain clubs fall in the standings.

Rios is making $12.5 million this season and carries a club option for 2015 at $13.5 million with a $1 million buyout.

His option, however, includes a trade kicker that escalates the annual salary slightly to $14 million and increases the buyout to $2 million. Still, his buyout alone makes him worth a flier for teams looking to contend now with a reasonably-priced option for a two-way player with speed next season.

The 33-year-old is hitting .305/.334/.431 with 16 steals, but his power is significantly down. His four homers and .127 isolated power numbers are well below his career norms.

While clubs such as Cleveland and Kansas City fall out of contention, there remains a robust market for right-handed bats. The New York Yankees appear to be a perfect match for Rios, but are reportedly on his no-trade list.

Seattle is also a potential destination for the 11-year veteran and while his power would presumably not play well there, his speed and ability to find the gap would likely flourish in spacious Safeco Field.
