Cubs have first scheduled Sunday off since 1932

The Chicago Cubs don't have a game scheduled on a Sunday for the first time in 82 years.

In anticipation for Sunday's annual Pride Parade in Wrigleyville, the Cubs decided to schedule a split doubleheader on Saturday to avoid the massive traffic congestion that would no doubt swallow the neighborhood if both the parade and a game were to happen simultaneously.

"That's unheard of. We already have some family plans for that day. Maybe this can become a regular thing," Cubs president Theo Epstein told the Chicago Tribune. "Let's play two — Ernie (Banks) style Saturday and enjoy a nice day of rest Sunday. But, no, it will be interesting."

The Cubs last scheduled Sunday off came on June 19, 1932, following a Saturday doubleheader against the New York Giants.
