Mariners GM on Kendrys Morales: 'I wouldn't comment one way or the other'
If the Mariners are indeed interested in re-signing first baseman Kendrys Morales, who declined the club's $14.1-million qualifying offer this offseason, general manager Jack Zduriencik isn't about to divulge his plans.
"We wouldn't talk about Kendrys publicly, obviously," Zduriencik told MLB Network Radio on Sunday. "He's a free agent and he has made a decision at this point - he hasn't signed with anybody yet - so we'll see. We'll see what happens. I wouldn't comment one way or the other."
Morales, who hit .277/.336/.449 with 23 home runs over 156 games last season, would be a welcome addition to a Mariners offense that has averaged just 3.85 runs per game thus far, the fourth-worst mark in the American League.
According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Orioles remain interested in acquiring Morales, who remains tied to draft-pick compensation.
