Brewers' Segura needs plastic surgery after freak injury

While Jean Segura avoided a concussion and a fracture, the Brewers shortstop will need plastic surgery to repair a large laceration close to his right eye, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Segura was accidentally hit in the face Saturday by teammate Ryan Braun's weighted bat in the dugout, but he's not expected to miss a considerable amount of time.

Manager Ron Roenicke told reporters after the Brewers 5-3 win over the Cubs that a plastic surgeon had already done some work on Segura and that it's too early to determine how much time he'll miss.

“A plastic surgeon stitched him up and we’ll just see," Roenicke said. "He’ll have some swelling tomorrow and then we’ll just see how quickly it goes down and how many days it’s going to be.”

No surprise as Segura will not feature in the Brewers' lineup Sunday for their series finale against the Chicago Cubs.
