Indians confirm 6-year, $23-million extension for C Yan Gomes

The Cleveland Indians made the extension of catcher Yan Gomes official Monday. 

Gomes and infielder Mike Aviles were acquired in a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays in November 2012 that sent pitcher Esmil Rogers the other way. 

With the extension, Cleveland now has 16 players under team control through 2016, including Michael Bourn, Carlos Santana, Michael Brantley and Jason Kipnis.
