The New York Mets have signed left-handed pitcher John Lannan to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training, the team announced Saturday.
Lannan has 148 career big league starts between the Phillies and Nationals over seven years. His 2013 season with Philadelphia was cut short by a knee injury in May, and a ruptured tendon in September.
The Long Island-native will compete for the fifth starter spot, according to ESPN's Adam Rubin. Lannan earned $2.5 million in 2013.
