Report: Cubs to sign P Jose Veras to a one-year, $4 million deal

The Chicago Cubs have reportedly beat out the Houston Astros for right-handed reliever Jose Veras.

The 33-year-old split time between the Astros and Detroit Tigers last season. In 62 2/3 innings, Veras finished with a 3.02 ERA while striking out 60 and walking 22. The Astros used him as a closer but was primarily a set-up man with the Tigers.
