Known affectionately as "Doc", the 36-year-old will sign a one-day contract to retire as a member of the Blue Jays, a touching gesture of gratitude to the team that employed him for more than a decade.

A two-time Cy Young award winner, Halladay battled injuries over the last two seasons, making just 13 starts in 2013 after undergoing shoulder surgery. Halladay posted a career earned run average of 3.38 with a 1.18 WHIP over 16 seasons in the majors, producing 67.6 wins above replacement while earning eight All-Star appearances.
Halladay hurled the twentieth perfect game in MLB history back in 2010, and also became just the second pitcher in history to throw a no-hitter in the postseason when he blanked the Reds in Game 1 of the 2010 National League Division Series.
