Diamondbacks call up No. 4 overall prospect Lawlar
The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Monday that they recalled Jordan Lawlar, the fourth-ranked prospect on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 list.
The former sixth overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft has been scorching hot at Triple-A Reno to begin the year, hitting .336/.413/.579 with 23 extra-base hits and 13 stolen bases in 37 games.
He struggled in a small sample after making his major-league debut in 2023, recording four hits in 31 regular-season at-bats.
Lawlar's current fit on the Diamondbacks is unclear with Geraldo Perdomo entrenched at the shortstop position. Perdomo signed a four-year, $45-million extension in February.
"Based on some of the things I'm telling you - guys needing days off ... we could probably get (Lawlar in the lineup) three to four days a week, and that's enough at-bats per week," Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said, according to Jesse Borek of MLB.com.
Arizona reinstated right-handed reliever Kendall Graveman from the injured list while designating infielder Garrett Hampson and pitcher José Castillo for assignment in the corresponding roster shuffle.
The Diamondbacks begin a three-game series against the division-rival San Francisco Giants on Monday night.
