Bregman open to playing 2B, says Boras
Longtime third baseman Alex Bregman is willing to play second base, his agent, Scott Boras, told USA Today's Bob Nightengale.
Several interested teams have asked whether Bregman would be willing to consider a position switch, Nightengale reports.
Bregman won his first career Gold Glove at third base in 2024. He ranked in the 91st percentile in outs above average at the position, but his arm strength ranks in the 26th percentile.
The 30-year-old has only made nine career appearances (two starts) at second base, most recently in 2018.
This winter's free-agent markets at third and second base are thin.
Bregman overcame a slow start to post another strong season at the plate in 2024, hitting 26 home runs while posting a .768 OPS (118 OPS+). His 4.1 fWAR tied with Rafael Devers for second-most among AL third baseman.
Bregman has spent his entire nine-year career with the Houston Astros, winning two World Series championships.
