Rangers move Scherzer to 60-day IL due to nerve issue in throwing arm
The Texas Rangers moved Max Scherzer to the 60-day injured list Wednesday.
Scherzer is dealing with neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome in his throwing arm. He received a Botox injection in his arm instead of undergoing surgery.
The ace had been nearing a return from offseason back surgery. However, he'd been experiencing persistent pain in his hand and forearm after an April 24 rehab start.
"We've got to figure out a way to manage it," Scherzer said, per Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News. "You are talking about nerves - it can screw up your arm for the rest of your life."
Scherzer, 39, is now ineligible to return to the Rangers until May 27.
The reigning World Series champions added Shaun Anderson to their active roster in a corresponding move.
