Rockies' Bard needs flexor tendon surgery, will miss rest of season
Colorado Rockies reliever Daniel Bard had a setback during rehab and will undergo season-ending right flexor tendon surgery, according to MLB.com's Thomas Harding.

Bard had been working his way back from knee surgery in February after tearing his meniscus playing catch. The 38-year-old made three trips to the injured list in 2023, two of which were for right forearm issues.
"He spent the offseason rehabbing, hoping where he is in his career that he could strengthen it, rest it, and maybe come back," Rockies manager Bud Black said Friday, according to The Associated Press. "The knee surgery, in a way, helped the process by giving him more time for the elbow, but the elbow just hasn’t responded."
Bard posted a 3.58 ERA with 60 saves over 150 2/3 innings for the Rockies from 2020-22 after returning from a seven-year MLB hiatus.
He's in the final season of a two-year, $19-million contract extension signed during the 2022 campaign.
