Marlins' García not happy with fans booing: 'I don't like that'
Miami Marlins outfielder Avisaíl García took aim at fans for booing him during the club's season opener.
"Every time they put me in the lineup, I want to do my best, of course, but it's not good for players to hear that the first at-bat of the season," García told Craig Mish of the Miami Herald. "I strike out and they boo? That's not good. I don't like that. It's the first time in my career that happened. Fans are fans. The game looks easy from the stands. I understand it, but it's not fair."
García is in the third season of a four-year, $53-million contract signed ahead of the 2022 campaign. The 32-year-old has struggled to stay healthy and seen his production at the plate take a hit. He owns a .571 OPS with 11 home runs and 47 RBIs across 138 games during his time with the Marlins.
"We want to have results. I want to have results," García said. "Last year I was hurt. This year, I'm healthy."
The Marlins dropped their first three games of the season to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
