Gio Gonzalez one-hits the Mets

Gio Gonzalez came a Zach Lutz seventh-inning single away from throwing the first no-hitter of his career on Monday night.

Gonzalez led the Washington Nationals to a 9-0 victory over the New York Mets, tossing nine scoreless innings and walking just two batters. Gonzalez also struck out eight, throwing 79 of his 110 pitches for strikes.

Lutz, pinch-hitting for Sean Henn, singled to right to lead off the seventh and walked in the ninth, joining Daniel Murphy (first inning walk) as the only Mets baserunners on the day.
