Brewers' Woodruff could miss entire 2024 season after shoulder surgery

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff could miss the entire 2024 season after undergoing surgery to repair the anterior capsule in his shoulder, the team announced Friday.

"Brandon's health is our top priority at this point in time," Brewers general manager Matt Arnold said Friday, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.

Woodruff missed nearly four months of action during the regular season with a subscapular strain in his throwing shoulder.

He returned to post a 2.13 ERA in eight starts before he experienced shoulder discomfort following an outing against the Miami Marlins on Sept. 23. He was ultimately ruled out for Milwaukee's wild-card series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Woodruff, 30, has spent his entire seven-year career with the Brewers, posting a 46-26 record with a 3.10 ERA and 788 strikeouts across 680 1/3 innings.

He's arbitration-eligible for the final time this offseason and is scheduled to become a free agent following the 2024 campaign.
