The Houston Astros have placed slugging outfielder Yordan Alvarez on the 10-day injured list with right oblique discomfort, the team announced Friday.
He's being sent back to Houston for further evaluation after leaving Thursday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The 25-year-old is hitting .272/.384/.579 with 17 homers and an MLB-leading 55 RBIs over 57 games this year.
Alvarez was a finalist for AL MVP last year, winning his first Silver Slugger and earning a spot on his first All-Star team after posting a 1.019 OPS with 29 homers and 97 RBIs.
He also missed time earlier this year with a neck ailment.
Houston recalled catcher Cesar Salazar from Triple-A to take Alvarez's spot on the active roster.
