Bregman open to testing free agency: 'We're listening to everything'
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman admits the idea of testing free agency holds some appeal to him.
"I mean, yeah," Bregman said Monday when asked if hitting the open market is attractive to him, according to the Houston Chronicle's Chandler Rome.
Bregman is eligible for free agency at the conclusion of the 2024 campaign. The 28-year-old has two seasons remaining on the five-year, $100-million extension he inked with the team in 2019.
Bregman is keeping an open mind when it comes to where his future might lie.
"We'll see what happens," Bregman said. "We're listening to everything. We're all ears. We'll see what happens."
Bregman reiterated his affinity for the city of Houston and the Astros fanbase while acknowledging his agent Scott Boras and general manager Dana Brown are slated to meet at some point.
"I love Houston. I love the people. I love my teammates. I love this city. It’s meant a lot to me and my family," Bregman said. "I don't have any update on that, but him and Scott are going to talk, and Scott will tell me whenever they do."
The Astros selected Bregman second overall in 2015. He's morphed into one of the franchise's most accomplished stars as a two-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion.
Bregman owns a lifetime .277/.375/.497 slash line with 140 home runs, 512 runs scored, and 490 RBIs over his seven-year career.
