Report: Nationals, Michael Chavis agree to minors deal

The Washington Nationals added infielder Michael Chavis on a minor-league contract, sources told Andrew Golden of the Washington Post.

Chavis would reportedly earn $1 million at the major-league level plus $500,000 in incentives and can opt out of the deal if he's not in the majors by June 1.

The 27-year-old spent the 2022 campaign with the Pittsburgh Pirates, hitting .229/.265/.389 with 14 homers and one stolen base over 129 games while primarily playing first base. He was designated for assignment in September.

Chavis is a former touted prospect of the Boston Red Sox, drafted 26th overall in 2014. He spent parts of three seasons in the majors with Boston, posting a .704 OPS with 25 dingers in 168 games before getting traded to the Pirates for lefty reliever Austin Davis.
