Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman is paying respect to some Fenway legends.
When the Bruins take the ice for Monday's Winter Classic game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Swayman will wear a mask featuring Boston Red Sox icons David Ortiz, Ted Williams, and Curt Schilling.
Ortiz was inducted into the Hall of Fame last summer after perhaps the most prolific career for a slugging designated hitter in MLB history. Over 20 years - 14 of which were spent with the Red Sox - the 10-time All-Star hit 541 homers, which ranks 17th all time.
Meanwhile, Williams earned his induction in 1966 and is considered one of the best hitters ever. A two-time MVP and two-time Triple Crown winner, one of his legendary home runs is immortalized by a single red seat in right field at Fenway Park. The ball is purported to have traveled 502 feet, where it hit a fan in the head at the location of the red seat.
Schilling is the lone member of the trio not enshrined in Cooperstown. The six-time All-Star is still considered an icon of the franchise for his role in helping end the team's championship drought in 2004, notably dominating Game 3 of the World Series in what would become known as the "bloody sock" game.
