Collmenter could be a candidate to steal some save opportunities if Heath Bell continues to struggle, the Arizona Republic reports.
Collmenter has been one of the D-Backs' best and most consistent relievers all season, and it seems like manager Kirk Gibson has finally reached his limit with the poor performances of Bell, J.J. Putz and David Hernandez. Collmenter is 4-2 with a 2.58 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP through 25 appearances this season. Meanwhile, both Bell and Hernandez have ERAs north of 4.50, and Putz is walking nearly 4.7 per nine innings. Whether the D-Backs give Collmenter a shot to close games remains to be seen, but one thing's for certain: Change will come if the top dogs continue to blow saves.
