MLB Tuesday best bets: Orioles to rebound vs. Nationals

After a relatively quiet night in MLB, things are about to get hectic - 17 games are scheduled Tuesday.

Let's take a look at a couple that stand out from the pack.

Angels (+115) @ Guardians (-135)

The Los Angeles Angels suffered a 5-4 defeat to the Cleveland Guardians in a hard-fought series opener Monday. I like the tables to turn in Los Angeles' favor Tuesday night.

Taking the hill will be youngster Jose Suarez, who enters this contest in strong form. He hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his last seven starts, conceding just eight earned runs during that stretch.

It's no coincidence Suarez garnered such strong results - he's pitching lights out. In fact, his FIP (2.78) is actually lower than his ERA (3.04) over the last month.

He's effectively kept the ball on the ground, struck out batters at an above-average rate, and limited hard contact fantastically well. His hard-hit rate is actually lower than the likes of projected starters Clayton Kershaw, Kyle Wright, and Alek Manoah, among others, in that time.

If the last six weeks are any indication, the Guardians are going to have a tough time hitting against Suarez. Not only is Suarez in excellent form, but the Guardians also struggle mightily against lefties. They sit 22nd in wOBA and dead last in ISO against left-handed pitching since Aug. 1.

On the flip side, the Angels should get off to a good start against Cody Morris. He's only made two starts - neither of which was necessarily good. He conceded three runs over six innings while allowing hard contact a whopping 45% of the time.

While that number will probably regress a little, getting barreled by Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, and, to a lesser extent, Taylor Ward isn't exactly a recipe for success.

The Angels are live 'dogs in Cleveland.

Bet: Angels (+115)

Orioles (-155) @ Nationals (+135)

The Baltimore Orioles are cooling off at the wrong time. They've dropped two in a row and six of the last 10, meaning their playoff chances are slowly slipping away.

They're now five games back of a wild-card spot and absolutely desperate to put together some wins.

While I don't think they'll win enough to get in, I certainly like their chances against the Washington Nationals.

Taking the mound tonight will be 26-year-old Dean Kremer, who's pitched very well of late. He owns a 2.30 ERA and 2.71 FIP over the past 30 days while posting a 50% ground-ball rate.

That spells trouble for a Nationals team that ranks 29th against righties in fly-ball percentage over the past few weeks. They're struggling to get the ball off the ground, and a date with Kremer is unlikely to help matters.

Meanwhile, the Orioles profile well against Cory Abbott. His FIP is two runs higher than his ERA over the past month, and he can't keep the ball out of the air. In that time, nobody projected to start - or open - today has allowed fly balls at a higher clip.

Even if his stint is short, Baltimore should be able to generate some offense against him and give Kremer the support needed to get back on track.

Look for the Orioles to rebound.

Bet: Orioles (-155)
