Dodgers' Buehler to undergo Tommy John surgery for 2nd time
Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Walker Buehler announced on Instagram that he'll undergo Tommy John surgery for the second time in his career.
The Dodgers announced Buehler also had a flexor tendon repaired, according to the Orange County Register's Bill Plunkett.
Buehler was ruled out for the season last week with an elbow injury that kept him sidelined since June.
His most recent MRI was unclear due to the scar tissue from Buehler's first Tommy John operation, according to The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya.
Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed the second UCL reconstruction after he determined it was necessary during surgery, according to The Athletic's Jim Bowden.
The recovery timetable will likely sideline Buehler for the entirety of 2023. The 28-year-old is arbitration-eligible for another two seasons before he's scheduled to reach free agency after the 2024 campaign.
Buehler underwent his first Tommy John surgery shortly after signing his contract with the Dodgers in 2015 as the franchise's first-round pick that year.
The two-time All-Star owns a lifetime 46-16 record with a 3.02 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 690 strikeouts in 638 1/3 innings.
