The Cincinnati Reds announced they've traded right-handed starting pitcher Tyler Mahle to the Minnesota Twins for a package of three prospects, including infielder Spencer Steer, corner infielder Christian Encarnacion-Strand, and left-handed pitcher Steven Hajjar.

Mahle, 27, owns a 4.40 ERA and 3.60 FIP over 19 starts this year. He'll join a starting rotation led by Joe Ryan, Sonny Gray, and Dylan Bundy. The former seventh-round pick is under team control through the 2023 season.

Numerous injuries have impacted the Twins' starting staff this year, with Randy Dobnak, Bailey Ober, Chris Paddack, and Kenta Maeda all currently sidelined. However, Minnesota remains in first place in a competitive AL Central.

Steer, 24, is hitting .269/.361/.528 with two homers and three steals in 83 games across two minor-league levels this season. He was ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the Twins' system, according to Baseball America.

The 22-year-old Encarnacion-Strand is posting a .302/.374/.612 slash line with 25 homers and eight steals in 87 games, recently earning a promotion to Double-A. He was the 14th-ranked prospect in Minnesota's system.

Hajjar was a second-round selection in the 2021 MLB Draft. The 21-year-old is pitching in the Florida State League and has posted a 2.47 ERA and 1.08 WHIP over 12 starts this season.
