The Boston Red Sox are calling up rookie starter Brayan Bello, who will make his MLB debut against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday at Fenway Park.

The move to bring in Bello was rumored to be in the works, but the club confirmed Tuesday that the right-hander would be called up, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive. The roster move has not yet happened, though, and will likely take place prior to Wednesday's game. The Red Sox will have to make room on the 40-man roster.

Bello will be filling in for the injured Rich Hill. The veteran lefty was placed on the injured list earlier this month with a sprained knee.

The 23-year-old is one of the most ascendant pitching prospects this season, authoring a 2.33 ERA over 85 innings across the Double-A and Triple-A levels, racking up 114 strikeouts to 33 walks.

He currently ranks as the No. 74 prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline, slotting in as the fourth-best farmhand in Boston's system behind Marcelo Mayer, Triston Casas, and Nick Yorke.
