Major League Baseball reduced St. Louis Cardinals star Nolan Arenado's suspension from two games to one for his role in Wednesday's bench-clearing brawl against the New York Mets, according to Katie Woo of The Athletic.

The third baseman will sit out Saturday's contest against the Arizona Diamondbacks and will be eligible to return Sunday.

During the Mets-Cardinals series earlier this week, Arenado got heated after being brushed back by a high-and-inside pitch from reliever Yoan Lopez in the eighth inning. Lopez was fined for his role in the fracas.

Arenado was deemed to have escalated the exchange and was ejected. Cardinals first base coach Stubby Clapp was the only other ejection, getting tossed for tackling Mets slugger Pete Alonso.

Cardinals reliever Genesis Cabrera was also suspended one game and has already served the penalty.

Mets hurler Taijuan Walker and Cards ace Jack Flaherty were also fined.

Arenado, 31, has been arguably the best player in baseball through the first month, hitting .375/.444/.681 with five homers through 19 games while providing premium defense at the hot corner.
