Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera will have to wait at least another day before joining the 3,000 hit club.

With the Tigers leading the New York Yankees 1-0 Thursday in the bottom of the eighth inning and Cabrera at the plate, Yankees manager Aaron Boone issued a two-out intentional walk to load the bases.

The walk brought outfielder Austin Meadows to the dish, who promptly made Boone and the Yankees pay for the decision with a two-run single.

Cabrera finished the game hitless in three at-bats with a pair of strikeouts as Detroit avoided the series sweep with a 3-0 victory.

The 39-year-old wasn't upset about getting intentionally walked.

"No, my on-base percentage went up," Cabrera said postgame, according to The Athletic's Cody Stavenhagen.

Cabrera sits at 2,999 career hits and will look to become the 33rd player in history to join the illustrious 3,000 hit club when the Tigers open a home series with the Colorado Rockies on Friday.

"Look, it's a baseball call all the way. But there's no doubt a little more feeling to it, understanding the situation," Boone said postgame, according to NJ.com's Brendan Kuty. "But in the end, you've got to go with what you think is right within the context of the game."
