San Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer and his teammates weren't thrilled after Giants utility man Mauricio Dubon dropped a bunt in the sixth inning with San Francisco up nine runs during Tuesday's game.

"I definitely told him how I felt, how we felt about it," said Hosmer postgame, according to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com. "He said it was a sign given to him by their staff. I just told him I think you've got to be a little bit smarter in that situation.

"You've been playing professional ball for a good amount of time obviously if you're at this level. You've got to be smarter than that."

Padres manager Bob Melvin was also irked about the decision during the contest:

Dubon's bunt also came after Giants outfielder Steven Duggar stole second base in the second inning with a nine-run lead.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler doesn't see a problem with the way his club played.

"If teams decide to continue to bunt or continue to run when they have a significant lead on us, which is going to happen, we're totally fine with it," Kapler said, according to NBCS.

Kapler added the plays were strategic.

"I fully support both of those decisions. Our goal is not exclusively to win one game in a series. It's to try to win the entire series. Sometimes, that means trying to get a little deeper into the opposition's 'pen. I understand that many teams don't love that strategy," Kapler said, according to Cassavell.

The Giants and Padres play again Wednesday. The two division rivals meet 17 more times this season.
