Giolito: 'No place else I'd rather be' than with White Sox
After inking a one-year, $7.45-million contract to avoid arbitration Friday, Chicago White Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito said he hopes to remain with the franchise long term.
"No place else I'd rather be," Giolito said Friday, according to The Athletic's James Fegan. "I've got a couple years here to try and step my game up and be that elite-caliber guy and see if we'll be able to make something happen in the future."
Giolito emerged as a stalwart in the White Sox rotation over the past three seasons. He posted an 11-9 record with a 3.53 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP, and 201 strikeouts in a career-high 178 2/3 innings pitched in 2021.
Giolito praised the White Sox front office and general manager Rick Hahn for "working their asses off" to resolve his contract situation.
The 27-year-old was projected to earn $7.9 million in his second year of arbitration, per MLB Trade Rumors, and he's scheduled to hit free agency in 2024.
The six-year veteran owns a career 42-38 record with a 4.19 ERA and 696 strikeouts in 667 2/3 innings.
