Report: Showalter favorite for Mets' managerial job
Buck Showalter is considered the favorite to become the next manager of the New York Mets due to his experience and history in the city, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
The 65-year-old skipper is reportedly interviewing for the position Wednesday after former Los Angeles Angels manager Brad Ausmus and Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Matt Quatraro spoke with club officials over the past two days.
Pittsburgh Pirates bench coach Don Kelly and Houston Astros bench coach Joe Espada are also reportedly in the running for the job, and Los Angeles Dodgers bench coach Bob Geren will interview this week, a source told Andy Martino of SNY.
However, new Mets ace Max Scherzer prefers Showalter, sources told Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated.
Showalter, a three-time American League Manager of the Year, has 20 years of managing experience on his resume and a combined 1,551 regular-season wins between the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers, and Baltimore Orioles.
The Mets have been searching for a new skipper since firing Luis Rojas following the 2021 campaign.
