Giants win 100 games for 1st time since 2003
The San Francisco Giants beat the Colorado Rockies 7-2 on Friday night, becoming the first team to reach the 100-win plateau this season.
It's the first time since 2003 the team has reached 100 wins. It's only the fourth time since the club moved to San Francisco in 1958 that they've accomplished the feat and the eighth time in franchise history.
The franchise record for wins in a single season is 106, set in 1903. San Francisco has eight games remaining.
The Giants have already clinched a playoff berth. However, despite possessing the best record in baseball, they could wind up finishing as the top wild-card team, with the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers within striking distance at 98-55.
Kervin Castro earned the win, allowing one hit over two innings in relief of left-handed starter Alex Wood, who allowed two runs on six hits over the first four frames while striking out seven.
Ashton Goudeau was hit with the loss, allowing four runs on four hits - including two homers - over 2 1/3 innings.
Brandon Belt hit his 27th home run of the season, tying Hunter Pence for the most homers in a single season for the Giants since Barry Bonds.
