Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto announced Wednesday that he will participate in the Home Run Derby at Coors Field in Colorado on July 12.

The 22-year-old joins Los Angeles Angels phenom Shohei Ohtani, New York Mets slugger and 2019 derby champ Pete Alonso, Trey Mancini from the Baltimore Orioles, Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story, Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez, and Oakland Athletics first baseman Matt Olson as confirmed participants in the event. One spot remains vacant.

In the midst of a down year, Soto is hitting .277/.395/.438 with 10 homers and five steals over 74 games played. Last year, Soto led all of baseball with a .490 OBP and .695 SLG but appeared in only 47 games during the pandemic-shortened campaign.
