The AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox are looking to add a major piece prior to the July 30 trade deadline.

Although the Colorado Rockies are telling teams they have no plans to trade Trevor Story before the All-Star break, Chicago continues to have serious interest in the prized shortstop, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

The White Sox already employ Tim Anderson but reportedly believe they'd have no trouble shifting Story to second base for the rest of the season.

Earlier this year, the Southsiders lost second baseman Nick Madrigal to a season-ending hamstring injury that required surgery. The position has since been manned by both Danny Mendick and Leury Garcia, who have slashed .211/.315/.294 and .250/.316/.335, respectively.

Story, who could potentially be a two-month rental, is earning $17.5 million this year, and the Rockies will likely look to receive one of the White Sox's top five prospects in return, according to Nightengale.

The 28-year-old is in the midst of a down season by his standards, slashing .256/.327/.455 with 11 home runs, 41 RBIs, and a team-leading 15 stolen bases.

Chicago has been linked to both infielder Eduardo Escobar of the Arizona Diamondbacks and second baseman Adam Frazier of the Pittsburgh Pirates in recent weeks as the club continues to search for upgrades on the infield.

The White Sox own a 49-34 record and have built a six-game lead on the Cleveland Indians in the division.
