Twins' Buxton fractures hand in 3rd game back from IL
Byron Buxton can't seem to catch a break.
The Minnesota Twins star outfielder suffered a boxer's fracture in his left hand during Monday's game after being hit by a pitch. It was Buxton's third game back from a lengthy stint on the injured list with a right hip strain.
"We can't talk about fairness," Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said, according to Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com. "This isn't fair."
Buxton was hit by a 97-mph pitch in the fourth inning and was originally diagnosed with a contusion before having X-rays. The Twins don't know how long he'll be sidelined.
"I'm not going to put any timeline on it right now," Baldelli said.
Buxton was placed on the injured list Tuesday, the club announced.
The 27-year-old was off to an incredible start before injuries derailed his season. He entered Monday hitting .366/.402/.772 with 10 home runs and 11 doubles in 26 games.
He was also among the AL starting outfielders in the second round of All-Star fan voting released earlier Monday. Buxton was looking to make his first All-Star Game.
Buxton's had injury issues throughout his career, appearing in only 459 games over seven seasons.
