Report: Yankees, Rangers discussing Delino DeShields Jr. trade
The New York Yankees and Texas Rangers are discussing a potential trade that would send outfielder Delino DeShields Jr. to the Bronx, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
It's unclear how close the teams are to reaching a deal.
The Yankees are dealing with myriad injuries to their outfield corps and recently placed Aaron Hicks on the injured list with a wrist ailment.
DeShields, 28, has not yet made an MLB appearance in 2021 after signing a minor-league deal with the Rangers this past winter. The speedy outfielder is hitting .412/.500/.706 with two homers and one stolen base in nine games this year with Triple-A Round Rock.
DeShields broke into the majors in 2015 with the Rangers, spending five seasons with the team before Texas traded him to the Cleveland Indians in 2019 in the Corey Kluber deal. The former first-round pick owns a .666 OPS with 18 homers and 109 steals in 576 MLB games over six years.
