The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired utility player Yoshitomo Tsutsugo from the Tampa Bay Rays for a player to be named later or cash considerations, the team announced Saturday.
The Rays designated Tsutsugo for assignment Tuesday after he hit .167/.244/.218 in 26 games this season.
The 29-year-old inked a two-year, $12-million contract with Tampa prior to the 2020 season but never found his offensive footing over 77 games in two campaigns with the club.
Tsutsugo was a star for 10 seasons in Japan before joining MLB. He hit .281/.372/.511 with 205 home runs and 613 RBIs in 968 games in Japan's Central League.
The Dodgers transferred infielder Edwin Rios to the 60-day injured list to make room for Tsutsugo on the 40-man roster.
