Molina seems to want Pujols back on Cardinals
Yadier Molina seems open to a St. Louis Cardinals reunion with first baseman Albert Pujols.
A few hours after the Los Angeles Angels released the future Hall of Famer, Molina posted a picture of himself with his former teammate and a thinking emoji as the caption.
Pujols, 41, isn't interested in retiring just yet.
"Albert is passionate about continuing to play,” Angels president John Carpino said, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.
However, returning to St. Louis wouldn't be an ideal fit, as Paul Goldschmidt is entrenched at first base and the National League doesn't use the designated hitter.
It would be a special reunion with Molina and right-hander Adam Wainwright. All three were members of the last Cardinals team to win the World Series in 2011, though Wainwright was injured at the time. Pujols signed his 10-year deal with the Angels that winter.
Pujols is already considered one of the greatest Cardinals players ever. He hit .328/.420/.617 with 445 home runs and 1,329 RBIs over 11 seasons with the club while winning the 2001 NL Rookie of the Year Award and three NL MVP awards, and earning nine All-Star appearances.
