Lindor: Mets fans booed me ‘because they expect results,’ and I do too

Francisco Lindor's tenure with the New York Mets hasn't exactly gotten off to a blazing start at the plate, and fans let him hear it on Tuesday with boos during a 1-for-4 performance.

"It's interesting and it's funny and it sucks," Lindor said Wednesday, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. "It doesn't feel right for sure. Interesting because it's the first time it's happened in my career. ... I get it. They're booing because they expect results. I expect results."

Lindor is hitting .212/.321/.273 with one home run over 19 games.

But it's early, and the shortstop doesn't think his lack of production in such a small sample of at-bats indicates he's in a prolonged slump.

"I don't feel like I'm in a slump. I feel like I've had quality at-bats," he said, according to DiComo. "A slump for me is when I'm 0-for-35, 0-for-30. That for me is a slump, that's like I'm not doing anything to help the team, I'm not giving my absolute best at-bats to help the team."

Lindor has still been showing off his defensive prowess, turning an unassisted double play on Tuesday night against the Boston Red Sox.

The 27-year-old will get plenty of opportunities to right the ship. He inked a 10-year, $341-million contract extension with the Mets after being acquired from the Cleveland Indians this past offseason.
