Oakland Athletics closer Trevor Rosenthal underwent thoracic outlet surgery on Thursday, the team announced.
The surgery resulted in the removal of his first rib, a pec minor release, and scalene release, according to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com.
Though an official timeline isn't available, Rosenthal could miss three or four months as he recovers, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
The A's signed Rosenthal to a one-year, $11-million contract in February with the idea that he'd serve as the club's closer.
The 30-year-old put together an impressive 2020 campaign when he posted a 1.90 ERA over 23 2/3 innings with the Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres.
