Mets manager saves game ball for Cohen after earning 1st win as owner

And just like that, Steve Cohen is on the board with his first win as owner of the New York Mets.

In their second game of the season after having their opening series postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak within the Washington Nationals organization, the Mets toppled the Philadelphia Phillies, 8-4.

While Marcus Stroman earned the official win in the boxscore, allowing one run over six strong innings, Mets manager Luis Rojas saved the game ball for Cohen.

"This is his first (win) as our owner, first of many to come," Rojas said, according to Tim Healey of Newsday. "You always remember that first win for sure."

This past September, a group led by Cohen finalized a deal to purchase the Mets from the Wilpon family for a reported total of $2.42 billion. In doing so, Cohen - a billionaire hedge fund manager - became the richest single owner in Major League Baseball. Cohen's net worth is estimated at $14.6 billion, while the next richest owner - Nationals' Ted Lerner - is at $4.8 billion, according to Axios.

The team went through a transformative offseason, adding catcher James McCann as well as four-time All-Star Francisco Lindor, who agreed to a $341-million contract extension with the team prior to Opening Day.
