Joe Musgrove's homecoming was a dream come true.

The San Diego native made his Padres debut at Petco Park on Saturday night in dominant fashion, striking out eight Arizona Diamondbacks over six scoreless innings while only allowing three hits. But he's got his eyes on a bigger prize.

"It's nice to be on the home team now," Musgrove said, according to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com. "I've never wanted something more than I do now - to bring a championship to this city."

The Padres acquired the 28-year-old from the Pittsburgh Pirates in January as part of a three-team trade. He, Blake Snell, and Yu Darvish were added in the offseason to help revamp San Diego's starting rotation.

"There was always that piece in the back of my mind that was hoping San Diego would be a possibility," Musgrove said.

Musgrove has shown flashes throughout his career but put together his best season in 2020. Despite a 1-5 record due to Pittsburgh's offensive struggles, he posted a 3.86 ERA, 3.42 FIP, and 1.24 WHIP while striking out 55 over 39 2/3 innings.

The right-hander's next start should come on the road next week as the Padres face the Texas Rangers.
