A new MLB season brings plenty of optimism, excitement, and unbelievable plays. The following five moments stood out during an Opening Day filled with action.

5. Miggy's HR in the snow

Future Hall of Famer Miguel Cabrera got the 2021 season rolling by taking reigning Cy Young winner Shane Bieber deep in the middle of a blizzard. Cabrera's home run was the 488th of his career, leaving him just 12 back of reaching the 500-homer club.

4. Brewers' comeback victory vs. Twins

Milwaukee Brewers infielder Travis Shaw electrified American Family Field - yes, that's the new name - with a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game against the Minnesota Twins. The Mayor of Ding Dong City's clutch hit set the scene for teammate Lorenzo Cain to play hero in extras by scoring the winning run.

3. Quinn's throw before Phils' walk-off win

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Roman Quinn unleashed a missile in the top of the 10th inning to nail Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies at home plate. The play preserved the tie and allowed Jean Segura to win the game with a walk-off hit in the bottom of the frame.

2. Bellinger's baserunning gaffe

It would't be Opening Day without a strange play. Los Angeles Dodgers star Cody Bellinger thought he hit a two-run homer, but had to settle for an RBI single because he passed Justin Turner on the base path after the latter thought the ball was caught.

1. Gregorius' wild over-the-shoulder catch

Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius prevented the go-ahead run from getting on in the top of the ninth with a diving over-the-shoulder catch in shallow left. If this snag is an indicator of what's in store for this season, baseball fans are in for a treat.
