Report: Blue Jays to open 2021 season at Florida spring facility
The Toronto Blue Jays will open the 2021 season in their spring-training home of Dunedin, Florida, multiple sources told Shi Davidi and Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.
TD Ballpark will host the Jays' home games through at least May 2, the team reportedly informed staff in an internal memo Wednesday.
The team is expected to make the move official Thursday.
The Blue Jays will join their NBA counterparts, the Toronto Raptors, as Canadian teams in predominantly U.S. leagues playing regular-season games in Florida. Both teams have been displaced from their regular homes due to travel restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Blue Jays played the majority of their home games during the shortened 2020 season at Buffalo's Sahlen Field, the home of their Triple-A affiliate. They also played some home games in opponents' ballparks.
TD Ballpark underwent renovations to install additional seating and updated player facilities prior to the 2020 season.
