Trevor Story is now the Colorado Rockies' biggest star, although he might not hold that mantle for much longer.

Trade rumors concerning Story picked up in earnest after Nolan Arenado was sent packing, and the shortstop will reach free agency at the end of the season even if he's not dealt. Yet the star is taking it all in stride as he and the Rockies prepare for their next chapter together.

"There's no need for me to worry about will I be traded or anything that is out of my control," Story said Wednesday, according to Thomas Harding of MLB.com. "That's wasted energy. I like to put my energy into my friends, my family, ways to make myself a better baseball player and a better leader for this team right now."

The Arenado trade hit Story hard and left him "a little frustrated" in the immediate aftermath. But Arenado's departure also lifted him into a new role as the face of the Rockies' franchise, something he's embracing despite the turnover. The 28-year-old worked with other team veterans to boost morale after the Arenado trade through group texts leading up to spring training, according to Harding.

The uncertainty surrounding Story remains as he hasn't signed an extension, and there's no indication of advanced discussions. Regardless, he's ready to give his all to the Rockies for as long as he's wearing their uniform.

"This is my last year on my contract, and I'm looking to enjoy it," Story said. "I owe it to my fans, to my teammates, first and foremost, to be the best player and leader I can be. That's where my energy is going to go, all my focus."
