Report: Athletics bring back Fiers on 1-year, $3.5M contract
The Oakland Athletics are re-signing right-handed starter Mike Fiers on a one-year, $3.5-million contract, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Fiers has spent the past two-and-a-half seasons with the A's. The 35-year-old has authored a 4.00 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 296 2/3 innings, making 53 starts and one relief appearance.
The veteran starter was notably one of the whistleblowers in the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal after playing with the team from 2015-17.
Fiers will rejoin a rotation that includes fellow right-handers Chris Bassitt and Frankie Montas, as well as southpaw Sean Manaea and up-and-coming lefty Jesus Luzardo.
The A's won the division last season for the first time since 2013. Oakland beat the Chicago White Sox in the wild-card round but lost to the division-rival Astros in the American League Division Series.
