The Houston Astros signed outfielder Steven Souza Jr. to a minor-league contract with an invite to spring training, the team announced Monday, according to Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet SW.

Souza collected four hits over 11 games with the Chicago Cubs last season. However, the 31-year-old recorded 30 homers over 148 contests during his last full campaign in 2017. Knee surgery cost the veteran half of the 2018 season and all of 2019.

The Astros need outfield depth after George Springer and Josh Reddick departed in free agency.
