The Boston Red Sox and Eduardo Rodriguez agreed to a one-year contract for $8.3 million ahead of Wednesday's tender deadline, the left-hander's agent announced Tuesday.

Rodriguez would've been arbitration-eligible for the last time before being able to test free agency after next season.

The 27-year-old didn't play in 2020 while dealing with myocarditis, a heart condition he developed after contracting COVID-19 in July. He said in mid-November that he expects to be 100 percent ready for the 2021 campaign.

Rodriguez finished sixth in AL Cy Young voting in 2019 after winning 19 games and registering a 3.81 ERA across 203 1/3 innings for the Red Sox.
