Los Angeles Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman was named Major League Baseball's Executive of the Year, the league announced Tuesday.

Ballots are cast by each MLB team prior to the beginning of the playoffs.

Chicago White Sox senior vice president and general manager Rick Hahn was the runner-up, while Tampa Bay Rays GM Erik Neander, who won last year, placed third.

This is the third season the league has bestowed the honor, with Oakland Athletics executive Billy Beane winning the inaugural award in 2018.

Friedman, 44, has been at the helm of the Dodgers since late 2014 after leaving the Rays. L.A. has claimed the division title in every season during that span and won the World Series this past campaign.

The Dodgers acquired Mookie Betts in a blockbuster deal with the Boston Red Sox last offseason, later handing the former MVP and four-time All-Star a historic 12-year, $365-million contract extension. Betts wound up playing an integral role in L.A.'s drought-busting championship run, finishing second in NL MVP voting while winning his fifth Gold Glove and fourth Silver Slugger.

Originally reported as a three-team deal involving the Minnesota Twins, the Betts trade wound up having to be reworked. The Dodgers instead made two separate deals, acquiring hard-throwing reliever Brusdar Graterol from the Twins in the process.
