San Diego Padres right-hander Dinelson Lamet began platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy on his elbow Monday, sources told Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The team expects the right-hander will be ready to resume pitching well before spring training.

Lamet has reportedly seen multiple specialists after he was forced to miss the Padres' postseason run due to the ailment he suffered in late September.

The team initially referred to the injury as bicep tightness, but San Diego immediately had concerns about Lamet's elbow. He missed all of 2018 after undergoing Tommy John surgery before posting a 4.07 ERA over 73 innings across 14 starts in 2019.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a breakout 2020 prior to the ailment. He went 3-1 with a 2.09 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and 93 strikeouts in 69 innings (12.1 K/9), and could finish in the top three in NL Cy Young voting.

In addition to losing Lamet, the Padres were without co-ace Mike Clevinger for most of the postseason due to a posterior elbow impingement. Clevinger did make one start in the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers but left in the second inning. He is expected to undergo more examination this week, Acee notes.
