The Tampa Bay Rays swept the Toronto Blue Jays in two games, winning 8-2 Wednesday to advance to the American League Division Series.

The Rays have become the second team to make it through to Round 2 of the postseason, following the Houston Astros' sweep of the Minnesota Twins earlier the same day.

Tampa, who entered the postseason as the No. 1 seed in the AL, will face the New York Yankees.

That best-of-five series will begin Monday, Oct. 5 in San Diego, with all games being played at Petco Park as the postseason moves into a bubble.

The Rays have only advanced beyond the ALDS once in their franchise's history - the team's first playoff berth in 2008 ended with a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series. This playoff appearance marks the third straight where the Rays have at least made it as far as the divisional round. The club won the wild-card game in both 2013 and 2019.

Tampa Bay earned a 3-1 victory in Game 1 on Tuesday.

This postseason berth was also the first for the Blue Jays since 2016. No player from the 2016 roster is currently with the team.
